Strigamia japonica (Verhoeff, 1935)

References for morphology: Verhoeff 1935; Takakuwa 1938, 1940.

Taxonomic notes. Described originally as a subspecies of Scolioplanes (Protoplanes) maritimus (currently Strigamia maritima), it was redescribed in more detail and illustrated by Takakuwa (1938, 1940) upon specimens with a number of leg pairs ranging widely between 37 and 57, thus possibly including different species. The taxon was repeatedly cited as a subspecies and occasionally at the species rank as S. japonica (Colmagro et al. 1986; Barber 2009b). Its validity was never questioned.

Distribution: Korean peninsula, all major and some minor Japanese islands, Nansei Shoto islands, and Taiwan.
