Megaphyllum taygeti (Strasser, 1976)

Chromatoiulus taygeti Strasser, 1976: 612 –614, Figs 49–51. Chromatoiulus taygeti: Ceuca 1992: 425 .

Megaphyllum taygeti: Felesaki et al. 2010: 360; Enghoff & Kime 2009.

Material examined. NMNH: Greece: Crete Island, Psiloritis Mt, 1600–2000m, 11.V.1984, leg. P. Beron, det. J.–P. Mauriès.

Distribution in the Balkans. Greece: Peloponnesе, Lakonia, 12km W from Sparta, 1000–1300m (type locality) (Strasser 1976); Crete Island, unspecified locality (Felesaki et al. 2010).

World distribution. Endemic to the island of Crete and Peloponnese, Greece.

Remarks. The only Megaphyllum species connecting the southern Peloponnese to Crete. Strasser described M. taygeti on the basis of a single male individual and did not assign it to any of the existing subgenera because of its unique gonopod structure (Strasser 1976). Investigation of vulvae and non-gonopodal structures strengthens an outstanding status of the species, maybe also differentiating it from the whole genus, but further investigations are necessary.
