Distribution: India: N.E. Himalaya (Holloway, 1998); Sikkim, Lachoong and Darjeeling (Werny, 1966; László et al., 2007; Zhuang et al., 2017). Elsewhere: Thailand, China, Nepal, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia. (László et al., 2007; Zhuang et al., 2017).

Remarks: Further subspecies are T. oberthuri taiwana (Matsumura, 1931) from Taiwan and T. oberthuri baluensis Werny, 1966 from Borneo (László et al., 2007).
