Genus Chlaenius Bonelli, 1810
The genus has not been revised since the Chaudoir (1876) work and is very speciose with almost 1259 described species and subspecies worldwide (Lorenz 2021). Tentatively, Basilewsky (1950b, 1950c) divided the genus Chlaenius into several genera, most of them recognized later at the subgenus level (Lorenz 2005). Provisionally, a total of 65 subgenera are recognized within Chlaenius (Lorenz 2021) . The identification keys for the Afrotropical species, or for some African country species, were provided for some of the subgenera (e.g., Basilewsky 1950c, 1952, 1955a, 1955b; Kirschenhofer 2008, 2009, 2010, 2018, 2019). Seventeen of those subgenera and 53 species were reported in Guinea ‒ Bissau (see Table 2).
