Type species: Hemisphragia debilis Townes, 1962, by original designation.

The genus Hylophasma belongs to the large worldwide subtribe Goryphina; in the Americas this subtribe is represented by only six genera (Yu et al. 2016). Of these, Hylophasma is a small genus comprising seven species: one species is known from the USA (Townes & Townes 1962: 378), five species occur in Mexico (including a new species described in this paper) and one species was recently described from China (Wang et al. 2019).
