Taxonomical note. The original description of Stephanocranion bufoninus is based upon a female from Pedra- Açu, Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro state. Although it lacks any illustration, some parts of the description led us to synonymize S. bufoninus with Discocyrtus crenulatus (a species common in Teresópolis), in contrast to Kury’s (2003) assessment as a member of Gonyleptellus . The features shared by the female of D. crenulatus and the description of S. bufoninus include: elevated ocularium, armed with a pair of robust erect spines; mesotergum convex, with hemispherical granulations; area III armed with a pair of robust erect spines; femora III–IV with apical posterior spine; general color brown burnt with large yellow hemispherical granulations.
