Specimen glued on the pin; left antenna missing; head and pronotum with drops of glue; right and fore leg, middle and hind tarsus missing; remnants of fungi on the specimen. Specimen locality: United States of America, Texas, El Paso. Additional notes: none. Mentions of the specimen in literature: Uhler (1864).

Right antenna broken; pronotum and abdomen glued together; hind tarsus broken; left middle leg and hind tarsus missing; tegmina and wings (in dorsal view) are ripped and with holes; remnants of fungi on the specimen. Specimen locality: South Africa. Additional notes: Junior synonym of Gryllotalpa fossor Scudder, 1869 . Mentions of the specimen in literature: Townsend (1983) does not mention this specimen.

4. Gryllotalpa major Saussure, 1874 Holotype ♀ (Fig. 4)

Label data: Gryllotalpa ponderosa type Bruner Det. by L. Bruner; Gryllotalpa major Sauss Det Hebard 1930 Hebard Collection; Gryllotalpa ponderosa H201 Type (on red); Labette Co Kas Dr. W.S. Newlon. Conservation status: Poor conservation. Head missing; pronotum cracked (dorsal and lateral view); right fore leg, middle legs and left hind leg missing; right hind left broken at the apex; tegmina and wings damaged. Specimen locality: United States of America, Labette County, Kansas. Additional notes: Junior synonym: Gryllotalpa ponderosa Bruner, 1886 . Hollier et.al. (2013) indicated that one male syntype of the senior synonym G. major is housed in the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle de Genève (MHNG).
