Leptostylus quintalbus Bates, 1885: 389; Aurivillius, 1923: 402 (cat.); Blackwelder, 1946: 614 (checklist); Gilmour, 1965: 574 (cat.); Chemsak & Linsley, 1970: 412 (lect.); Chemsak et al., 1992: 140 (cat.); Monné & Giesbert, 1994: 250 (checklist); Monné, 1995: 101 (cat.); Monné & Hovore, 2006: 185 (checklist); Monné, 2005: 66 (cat.); Swift et al., 2010: 39 (distr.); Monné, 2020: 87 (cat.).
This species was described based on specimens (sex not informed) from Panama (Chiriquí). Chemsak & Linsley (1970) designated a lectotype. Interestingly, despite the similarity with L. orbiculus, Bates (1885) did not compare the two species. The most reliable difference between them is the presence of two centrobasal crests on each elytron in L. quintalbus (Fig. 18) and only one in L. orbiculus (Fig. 17).
Currently, L. quintalbus is known from Costa Rica and Panama (Monné 2020).
