Anisopodus scriptipennis was described based on at least one male and one female from Nicaragua (Chontales). Chemsak & Linsley (1970) designated a lectotype. Currently, it is known from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama (Monné 2020). Maes et al. (1994) recorded this species from Mexico, without further locality. In Panama, the species is formally recorded from the provinces of Chiriquí (Bates 1885), Colón (Bates 1885), and Darién (Lanuza-Garay & Santos-Murgas 2018). In Costa Rica, the species is formally recorded from Guanacaste, Limón, Puntarenas, and San José (Swift et al. 2010).
Examination of a female specimen from Costa Rica (Heredia) (Figs 22–25), as well as a male from Panama (Chiriquí) (Fig. 31), allowed us to see variations on the elytral pubescence pattern. The shape of the area lacking dense yellowish-white pubescence after the middle of the elytra is very variable, and the circular spots lacking yellowish-white pubescence on the anterior half are also variable in the size.
