3. Phyllanthus hypoleucus Müller Argoviensis (1863: 40) .
Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. In Brasiliae prov. Bahiensi, F. Sellow 583 (F0057027!, F0BN005030! [photo at B]) . Remaining syntype: BRAZIL. In Brasiliae prov. Bahiensi, F. Sellow 1006 (B, probably destroyed) .
Müller Argoviensis (1863) described Phyllanthus hypoleucus based on Sellow 583 and Sellow 1006 from Bahia State and deposited in “ hb. Berol. ”. The specimens deposited in B were most likely destroyed. Webster (2002) indicated the original material used to describe P. lacteus (1866: 402) (currently a synonym of P. hypoleucus) as the holotype of P. hypoleucus . That material was collected by Sellow s.n. from “ Bahia: prope Nazaré” and can be found at G and K. We found a fragment of the original material, Sellow 583, identified by Müller in herbarium F. That fragment may have been removed from the type that was deposited in herbarium B as it contains a label with the inscriptions of the latter institution. Therefore, in order to clarify the identity of the type of P. hypoleucus, we decided to reject the typification proposed by Webster (2002) and to designate the fragment of Sellow 583 deposited in F (F0057027!; Fig. 4) as a lectotype.
