Epicrates crassus Cope, 1862

A juvenile individual (Fig. 9) found severed in two at Horqueta (23°19’41’’S 57°03’05’’W), Concepción department by Nelson Vera on 3 February 2022 is the first record for the department. It is the only member of its genus that occurs in the Oriental region of Paraguay, where it is rarely reported (Cacciali 2024). The species has been previously reported from Alto Paraná, Amambay, Caaguazú, Canindeyú and San Pedro departments (Waller, Micucci, Buongermini Palumbo, 1995; Cacciali et al., 2016b). It is considered to be “Endangered” in Paraguay (Martínez et al., 2020c).
