Contrib., 80:1 -104, referred New World otters to Lontra; see Gray, 1843, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., 11: 118; but also see revision by Sokolov, 1973, Byull. Mosk. Ova. Ispyt. Prir. Otd. Biol., 78:45-52, who regarded Lontra as a subgenus of Lutra, as did Hall, 1981: 1028.
