Hydraecia praecipua Hacker & Nekrasov, 2001, in Hacker, Esperiana 8: 826, pl. 29, fig. 21 (Type locality: Russia, Daghestan, Gunib).
Material examined. Holotype of Hydraecia praecipua: "Daghestan, Berkh. Gunib, 21-30.vii.1984, D. Obydov, Gen. 1404 a" / " Hydraecia praecipua Hacker & Nekrasov, Holotype, Esperiana 8: 826" / "Gen. Präp. Hacker № 10439". Slide 10439 Hacker (Coll. ZMMU).
Diagnosis. Wingspan 24–26 mm, length of forewing 11–12 mm. The species is close to H. yakobsoni and H. shchetkini . It externally differs from H. yakobsoni by dark brown colouration of forewings and almost straight postmedial line (Fig. 5). The male genitalia (Fig. 35) are similar to that of H. yakobsoni (Fig. 13) and differ by somewhat wider uncus, smaller juxta, somewhat larger cucullus, shorter and narrower vesica. Distinguishing features of H. praecipua from H. shshetkini are described in the diagnosis below.
Distribution. North Caucasus: Daghestan. The species is known by the holotype only.
