Chironomus okicontractus Sasa, 1993: 125; Yamamoto & Yamamoto 2014: 313. [Holotype: male, No. 246:01; holotype missing?].
Chironomus tokarabeceus Sasa et Suzuki, 1995: 258 . syn. n.
Specimen examined: Japan: Kagoshima Pref., Tokara Isles, Nakanoshima Is., holotype ♂ of Chironomus tokarabeceus, 20. v. 1994, H. Suzuki, [specimen No. 290:001 (NSMT-I-Dip 5010)] .
The following characters are recognized in the holotype of Chironomus tokarabeceus: abdominal tergites 2-6 each with a central dark patch and 3-7 the tergites each with paired dark lines along lateral margins; gonocoxite fused with SIX on its lateral portion. These features are consistent with those of C. okinawanus . We could not examine the holotype of C. okicontractus which has been probably missing. However, we could determine the species as C. okinawanus based on the original description.
