Kiefferulus umbraticola (Yamamoto, 1979)

Chironomus umbraticola Yamamoto, 1979: 10 (as subgenus Kiefferulus).

Chironomus toyamabiceus Sasa, 1996: 21 . syn. n.

Specimen examined: Japan: Toyama Pref., Family Park, holotype ♂ of Chironomus toyamabiceus, 21. ix. 1993, M. Sasa [specimen No. 273:001 (NSMT-I-Dip-4963)] .

The following characters are recognized in the holotype of Chironomus toyamabiceus: small blackish spot on the median portion of scutum; inferior volsella large, oval and flattened; superior volsella long, horn like, with several setae on its basal portion. These features are completely consistent with those of Kiefferulus umbraticola .
