Hemidactylus matschiei (Tornier, 1901)
This poorlyknown, savannadwelling species was described from Togo (Tornier 1901) and has subsequently been collected as far east as west central Nigeria at Yankari Game Reserve (Dunger 1968), suggesting that it also occurs in Bénin. It is possible that the apparent rarity of this species is yet another reflection of the longstanding confusion regarding the identity of many of the West African Hemidactylus (Henle & Böhme 2003) .
