Distribution. Japan: Hokkaido (Togashi, 1984). Russian Far East, Siberia, Caucasus, Asia Minor, Europe (Lelej, 2012).
Togashi (1984) recorded this species from Japan, based on a single female collected on 6 July 1977 in Wakkanai, Hokkaido. We have not located that specimen, and have never seen Japanese specimens of C. varipes . The occurrence of this species in Japan requires confirmation .
Bionomics. Host plant: Fagaceae: Quercus spp. in Europe (Chevin, 1974; Taeger et al., 1998; Lacourt, 1999). Remarks. This species will be distinguished from other Japanese congeners as stated in the key above.
