THOMAS [labels 1 and 3 pencil handwriting Vaillant, 2 printed]; [red label ‘ Dolichocephala fumosa paratype Wagner 2024 ’ on backside of slide]. Holotype and paratypes deposited in collection RW and MZLS.
Etymology. The new species is named in reference to the darkly colored wings.
Remarks. Dolichocephala . fumosa is a close relative of D. cavatica (Becker, 1889), with both species lacking an auxiliary crossvein between R 2+3 and R 4. Differences between species include wings plain translucent in D. cavatica, brownish in D. fumosa; the hypandrium of D. cavatica is short triangular, but is elongate rectangular in D. fumosa .
Ecological notes. In Portugal, this species was discovered in a rocky stream bed (Ribeira de Dorna) (Fig. 2) by sweeping the wet surface of exposed rocks. The site is situated at an altitude of approximately 800 meters, within a forest primarily dominated by oaks. Birches and willows are also present along the stream banks.
