Franck (MNHB) ; 1 ♂, Guangdong Prov., Shaoguang, Nanling, 1000 m, 8.vii.2007 (NSMT) ; 1 ♂, same locality, 800 m, 24.vi.2008 (NSMT); 1 ♂, same locality, 600 m, 23.vi.2014 (NSMT); 1 ♂, same locality, 600 m, 19.vii.2014 (NSMT) . 3 ♂ 1 ♀, same locality, 800 m, 2–6.vii.2012 (CAK) .

M. sangaica was originally described from Shanghai, and the nominotypical subspecies is only known from China and Vietnam (Arita & Gorbunov, 1995a, Špatenka et al. 1999, Arita & Kallies, 2000). The subspecies nipponica Arita & Yata, 1987 occurs in Japan. Several specimens were collected while visiting white flowering trees along a river valley.
