Protopolybia steinbachi Richards, 1978: 139, 148. (holotype: ♀, Bolivia (J. Steinbach) (BMNH), examined; para- type: 2♀, same data as holotype (BMNH), examined.

Diagnosis. Length of fore wing 4.55 mm; humerus distinctly projecting, carina lamellate and recurved forwards at extremity, not extending downwards; metanotal process with apex truncated; propodeum with wide and deeply excavated cavity, heart-like shaped; propodeal valvula wide; species black, vertex, mesoscutum, scutellum, metanotum and propodeum with marks; T1 and T2 ferruginous with yellow marks.
