10. Lobelia thapsoidea Schott ex Pohl (1831: 102)
≡ Rapuntium thapsoideum (Schott ex Pohl) Presl (1836: 24) ≡ Haynaldia thapsoidea (Schott) Kanitz (1878: 144) .
Type:— BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro: “ a me visa ad Ouro Fino, Capitaniae Goyas ”, Februario 1821, Schott 5372 (holotype: W! in two sheets [0058405], [0058406]) .
Notes: — Lobelia thapsoidea was distinguished by Schott and validly published by Pohl (1831). The species protologue provides a diagnosis, locality indication (“ Habitat circa Rio de Janeiro, Lecta a Dno. Schott, a me visa ad Ouro Fino, Capitaniae Goyaz ”), and detailed description. Our herbarium search led to the collection Schott 5372, housed at W. A label matching the description in the protologue was attached to the sheet number W0058406, but contained only leaves. The sheet number W0058405, with a label identical to that of the sheet W0058406, had an inflorescence and only one leaf, which was too large to have been removed from the apex of the stem. These plant fragments are clearly part of a single specimen that was mounted on two sheets. According to Art. 8.2 of ICN (McNeill 2014), these sheets represent a single specimen and are here interpreted as the holotype.
