The valid type species fixation is that of Curtis (1834), who selected Scarabaeus horticola Linnaeus, 1758, but that is the type species of the genus Phyllopertha Stephens, 1830 . A subsequent designation based on an originally included nominal species is that of Westwood (1838), who selected Melolontha austriaca Herbst, 1783, but that is the type species of the subgenus Autanisoplia Medvedev 1949, not the nominotypical subgenus.

An application to the Commission is necessary to fix Scarabaeus agricola Poda von Neuhaus, 1761 as type species of Anisoplia Schönherr, 1817 .
