Townes and Townes (1966) pointed out that the name of this species was a junior primary homonym of Hemiteles thoracicus Ratzeburg, 1852; and proposed the replacement name alayoi . Holotype Ƥ (IES # 158) lacking wings and glued face downwards onto a white card square.
