Discussion: Distinct from Phascolarctidae (see Ride, 1970:22) and does not include Pseudocheiridae, Petauridae, Burramyidae, or Acrobatidae (see Aplin and Archer, 1987). A provisional classification was given by Flannery et al. (1987), and this was modified by Norris (1994).
