Polana (Varpulana) agualimpa sp. nov.

(Figs 1–22, 67, 68)

Diagnosis. Style (Fig. 11) with ventral protrusion short and wide at base. Aedeagus (Figs 12, 13) with apodemal processes slender and directed laterodorsally; shaft with pair of very slender processes at mid-length, without subapical processes.

Measurements (mm). Holotype male: total length 7.3. Paratype (male), 7.3−7.4; (female), 8.0−8.2.

Description. A s in description of the subgenus.

Coloration. Head and thorax (Figs 1, 67, 68) brown. Crown (Fig. 1) with two small rounded black spots behind ocelli, near posterior margin. Pronotum (Fig. 1) with six black maculae near anterior margin. Face (Fig. 2) without maculae. Proepimeron (Fig. 3), with black stripe below pronotal carina. Forewing (Fig. 4) brown with black markings on: cross veins of discal cell and apex of anal veins; smoky maculae on base of appendix; with transverse dark brown band on apical third, from R1 vein to apex of clavus. Legs brown.

Male terminalia. Sternite VIII (Fig. 5) 1.4 times wider than long; posterior margin with median third produced and rounded. Valve (Fig. 6) with posterior margin broadly rounded. Pygofer (Fig. 7) two times longer than maximum height; dorsal margin with short process at base; apex tapered and truncate; posterior margin (Fig. 8), in ventral view, with small and rounded protrusion near apex, and membranous rounded lobe bent inward. Subgenital plate (Fig. 9) 3.5 times longer than wide; lateral margins approximately parallel; apex slightly tapered and rounded. Connective (Fig. 10) linear, with stalk very long, two times longer than arms width. Style (Fig. 10), in dorsal view, with outer lobe small and subacute; in lateral view (Fig. 11), ventral protrusion short and wide at base, apex serrated; blade straight, slightly tapered toward apex; apex curved dorsally and subacute. Aedeagus (Figs 12, 13) with apodemal processes slender and directed laterodorsally, shorter than shaft length, enlarged medially, apex tapered and flattened; shaft curved dorsally, with pair of very slender processes at mid-length, as long as shaft apex, without subapical processes; shaft apex membranous, curved anterad and laterally.

Female terminalia. Sternite VII (Fig. 14) 1.6 times wider than long; posterolateral corners rounded and strongly produced posterad; posterior margin slightly excavated laterad of rounded median lobe. First valvifer (Fig. 16) 2.1 times higher than long. First valvula (Fig. 18) with apex abruptly tapered with dorsal margin irregular. Second valvula (Fig. 20) apex with three small teeth. Other characteristics as in the description of the subgenus.

Etymology. The new species name, a noun in apposition, refers to the locality where the type-series was collected.

Material examined. Holotype male: “ Brasil, Brasília—DF, Faz.\ Água Limpa, 15.9594ºS \ 47.9328ºW, 15.XII.2014 \ Malaise, A.J.C. Aguiar ”, (DZUP) . Paratypes: 2♂, 2♀, “ Brasil, Brasília—DF,\ Fazenda Água Limpa,\ M. Galeria, malaise,08-\ 22.XII.2017, J. R. P. Luz ”, (DZUP); 2♀, same data as preceding, except 09-23.XI.2017, (DZUP); 1♀, same data as preceding, except 11-25.VI.2017, (DZUP) .

Remarks. Polana (V.) agualimpa sp. nov. is most similar to P. (V.) elera in having the style ventral protrusion short and wide at the base. However, the new species differs in having the aedeagal shaft with a pair of very slender processes at mid-length and the apex strongly curved (Figs 12, 13).
