Brypoctia Schoorl, 1990: 162
Type species (by monotypy)— Xyleutes strigifer Dyar, 1910 .
Brypoctia was proposed to include Xyleutes strigifer Dyar, 1910 based on the unique structural characters of the head appendages and thoracic sclerites (Schoorl 1990). As mentioned by Schoorl, “male antenna bipectinate for approx. 0.4 times its length, labial palpi slender and approx. 0.5 times length of eye-diameter, second segment of labial palpi apically slightly thickened, tegula ventroposteriorly bluntly pointed (Schoorl 1990)”. Other characters refer to minor details of the thorax which are impossible to distinguish in field determinations and require examination using a microscope.
