Diagnosis. Filatima pagicola can be distinguished by the forewing with an indistinct cream white spot near the basal 3/4 of the costal margin (Fig. 6); in the male genitalia by the hooked anellus lobe, and the phallus with two sclerotized lateral extensions and two cornuti (Fig. 26); and in the female genitalia by the eighth sternite having a triangular medial sclerite, the ductus bursae with longitudinal sclerotized folds and produced outward posterolaterally (Fig. 33). This species is superficially similar to F. asiatica Sattler, 1961, and the specific distinctions between them are stated in the diagnosis of F. asiatica Sattler, 1961 .
The phallus of this species stands out with its rounded apex in the left extension, a characteristic that serves as a clear distinguishing feature from other species within the genus.
Redescription. Adult (Fig. 6). Wingspan 14.0–17.0 mm.
Head grayish brown, frons cream white. Labial palpus: first segment blackish brown on outer surface, cream white on inner surface; second segment cream white mottled with pale brown on outer surface except dark brown at basal 1/5, cream white on inner surface; third segment shorter than second segment, cream white mottled with pale brown. Antenna: scape cream white mottled with pale brown; flagellum cream white, with brown rings.
Thorax and tegula grayish brown. Forewing grayish brown, mottled with grayish yellow scales; blackish brown spot at base, 1/5 and 2/3 below costal margin as well as at 1/4 and 1/2 of fold respectively, indistinct cream white spot beyond blackish brown spot near costal 3/4; blackish brown spot at middle and end of cell, surrounded by grayish yellow scales; cilia grayish brown mottled with dark brown scales. Hindwing and cilia grayish brown. Foreand midlegs grayish brown on outer surface, except tibiae with cream white near middle and at apex, cream white on inner surface, tarsi cream white at apices of 1-2 tarsomeres of foreleg and at apex of each tarsomere of midleg; hindleg grayish brown on outer surface, except tibia cream white at base, middle and apex, cream white on inner surface, tarsus cream white mottled with brown near base of each tarsomere.
Male genitalia (Figs 16, 26). Tergum eight ovoid, with distally broadened anterolateral arms. Sternum eight sub-trapezoid; anterior margin nearly straight, with slender anterolateral arms; posterior margin emarginated triangularly from middle to about posterior 2/5. Uncus narrowed from base to basal 2/3, subparallel in distal 1/3, posterolateral lobe digitate, sclerotized, median protrusion shell-shaped; ventral surface with strong setae. Gnathos stout, hooked, narrowly rounded at apex, distal 2/5 serrate on inner margin. Tegumen with anterior margin deeply emarginated to before anterior 1/2. Valva narrowed from base to apex, slightly broadened near distal 1/6, bent inward, not touching apex of gnathos. Sacculus clavate, about 1/2 length of valva. Anellus lobe strongly sclerotized, basal 1/3 widened, distal 2/3 horn-shaped, curved outward, about same length as sacculus. Vinculum narrow. Saccus gradually narrowed distally, about 1.3 length of sacculus. Phallus with two sclerotized lateral extensions and two cornuti: left extension curved, with numerous teeth on basal 2/3 and several teeth on distal 1/6, rounded at apex; right extension slender, shorter, pointed at apex; apical cornutus undulating, not furcate, with a longitudinal membranous lobe at basal 2/3 and a tooth at distal 1/5, pointed at apex; medial cornutus long, horn-shaped, pointed at apex.
Female genitalia (Fig. 33). Papillae anales sub-oval.Apophyses posteriores about four times length of apophyses anteriores. Sternite eight trapezoid-shaped, with a triangular emargination at middle of its posterior margin; medial sclerite sub-triangular. Ductus bursae broad, with longitudinal sclerotized folds broadened posterolaterally, with numerous spines on inner surface. Corpus bursae oval-shaped, about twice length of apophyses anteriores, smooth on inner surface; signum being a plate with numerous small teeth and two long spine-shaped anterolateral processes, placed in middle of corpus bursae.
Distribution. China (Beijing, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Ningxia, Shandong, Shanxi, Tianjin).
Note. The redescription of F. pagicola (Meyrick, 1936) includes the first description of the hitherto unknown female.
Remarks. Filatima pagicola was described on the basis of two specimens collected from Taishan of China by Meyrick (1936). We identified this species by comparing it with the description of Meyrick (1936) and the figures provided by Clarke (1969). We found that the female of this species is identical to the female of F. sciocrypta (Meyrick, 1936) in appearance and genitalia (see images provided by Bidzilya & Nupponen 2018: figs 51, 54). They share the following characters: the forewing with a blackish brown spot at base, at 1/5 and 2/3 below the costal margin as well as at 1/4 and 1/2 of the fold respectively, and a blackish brown spot surrounded by grayish yellow at middle and end of cell respectively; the female genitalia with the ductus bursae having longitudinal sclerotized folds and produced outward posterolaterally. Further, the female of F. sciocrypta differs from its male in appearance by having a broader forewing with a spot near basal 1/5 of the costal margin (see images provided by Bidzilya & Nupponen 2018: figs 50, 51). Therefore, the female of F. sciocrypta might be a mismatch.
