Genus Tripetalocera Westwood, 1834
Tripetalocera Westwood, 1834: 444; Kirby, 1890: 593; Hancock, 1907a: 4; Kirby, 1910: 1; Kirby, 1914: 12; Willemse, 1930: 31; Günther, 1938a: 411; Günther, 1942: 339; Steinmann, 1970: 215; Blackith, 1992: 194; Otte, 1997: 137; Liang & Zheng, 1998: 21; Zheng, 2005: 14; Mahmood et al., 2007: 1283.
Type species: Tripetalocera ferruginea Westwood, 1934, by monotypy.
Diagnosis. Similar to Tripetaloceroides gen. nov., but differs by follows: pronotum near the middle with strong triangular spine (Fig. 18); posterior process of pronotum in dorsal view narrowly triangular (Fig. 19); hind margin of lateral lobes of pronotum bisinuate, tegminal (upper) sinus distinctly narrower than lower sinus; tegmina short, narrow; hind wings long, almost extending the apex of posterior process of pronotum; male subgenital plate with excised apex (Fig. 9), upper valve of ovipositor narrow, 3.2–3.6 times longer than its maximum width (Fig. 6).
Composition. Genus includes the type species only.
Notes. In Orthoptera Reference File (Eades et al., 2013) T. ferruginea is mistakenly considered as the type species of Tripetalocera by subsequent designation by Willemse (1930), but really the first author who formally designated T. ferruginea as type species was Kirby (1890). However, according to Article 68.3 of the Code (ICZN, 1999) T. ferruginea is the type species of the genus by monotypy, not by subsequent designation.
