FAMILY BLISSIDAE STÅL

MARIA DEL CARMEN COSCARÓN

The following Argentina records of 36 species in eight genera will most certainly be markedly increased by further collecting.

Formerly a subfamily in the Lygaeidae (see J. Slater 1964, 435 and J. Slater and O’Donnell 1995, 44), this group was elevated to family status by Henry (1997a, 296).

A major monograph on the “Systematics, Phylogeny, and Zoogeography of the Blissinae of the World” was published by J. Slater (1979a); it contains a key (pages 58–61) to 46 genera and a checklist of all known species and keys to most of them.
