Genus Sophiodela Nakane, 1955, stat. nov.

Type species – Cicindela japonica Thunberg, 1781 .

Cicindela (Sophiodela) Nakane, 1955: 26 (type species: Cicindela japonica Thunberg, 1781).

Cicindela (Sericina) Rivalier, 1961: 123 (type species: Cicindela chinensis DeGeer, 1774) [synonymy by Nakane 1976: 3].

Remarks. This subgenus was originally established under the genus Cicindela by Nakane (1955). In this paper, our results based on the morphological features of male genitalia supported the monophyletic group as an independent genus. Therefore, we raised the taxonomic rank of the subgenus to the genus Sophiodela stat. nov.
