Paederomimus Sharp 1885: 438 –439. Type species: Paederomimus difformiceps Sharp, 1885, by original designation.

Notes: Paederomimus is the most diverse and widely distributed genus among the Neotropical endemic genera, accounting for 58 species at present. Sharp (1885) erected the genus for 39 species, some of which were organized into three species groups. Never revised after its original description, other species were later described and/or assigned to this genus (see references below) whose monophyly is currently doubtful (Chani- Posse et al. 2018). The only available hypothesis of monophyly known at present is that provided by Sharp (1885: 439) who stated “3. A group for which, if the genus be divided, the name Paederomimus be retained, and of which P. difformiceps may be taken as type ”. Within the context of this study we find adequate to orientate the readers through the study of this genus by doing remarks into those species that fulfill Sharp´s concept of his Paederomimus group 3.
