Holotype male: MNRJ (examined). Probably destroyed in the fire of 2.ix.2018. Species also known from: Paraná (new record), Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo (new record) (Fig. 12a).
Bittacus angrensis, B. brunipennis and B. geniculatus form the group of Brazilian species with the apical region of the forewing falcate, referred to as “group angrensis ” by Collucci & Amorim (2000). The relationship between B. angrensis and B. brunipennis needs further investigation; they are very similar and males of the latter are still unknown.
