Trailing, climbing or creeping shrubs. Rhizome short. Prickles curved, all similar. Outer sepals usually pinnatifid, deflexed and deciduous after anthesis. Disc wide, with a narrow orifice. Carpels sessile. Styles connate in a column, at least as long as the inner stamens, not becoming free in fruit.
