Genus Onychopterocheilus Blüthgen, 1955

Onychopterocheilus Blüthgen 1955: 406–407, subgenus of Pterocheilus Klug, 1805 .

Type species: Pterocheilus daw (Dusmet, 1909) [= Odynerus daw Dusmet, 1903], by original designation and monotypy.

Diagnosis. Labial palpus with three segments; female LP2 and LP3 covered by long setae forming psammophore, setation reaching apex of LP3; LP2 flattened, not narrowing towards apex; LP3 flattened and distinctly curved; proboscis often relatively long; male mandible often with notch between basal and preapical teeth; male flagellum usually coiled apically or rarely simple but not hooked; female vertex with two foveae, sometimes indistinct; anterior face of pronotum without foveae; tegula small, evenly rounded posteriorly, not reaching apex of parategula; second submarginal cell of forewing with acute basal angle; propodeum without transverse carina between dorsal and posterior surfaces; propodeal valvula mono-lamellate; propodeal orifice broadly rounded dorsally; parastigma not longer than pterostigma; T1 not petiolate, without transverse carina; both T1 and T2 without apical lamella; male sterna often with dense apical fringes of setae.

Subgenera included. The genus includes 62 currently recognized species in five subgenera: Acutopterocheilus Kurzenko, 1988 (6 species), Asiapterocheilus Kurzenko, 1988 (13 species), Ghilarocheilus Kurzenko, 1988 (4 species), Neopterocheilus Kurzenko, 1988 (2 species), and Onychopterocheilus s. str. (37 species) (Kurzenko 1988, 2004; Gusenleitner 2005, 2013; Yildirim 2014; current data).
