Family Laelapidae Berlese

Five laelapid genera viz. Gaeolaelaps, Gymnolaelaps, Hyperlaelaps, Laelaspis and Stratiolaelaps and two species L. pennatus and S. scimitus are new to the fauna of SA. Previously, three genera viz. Androlaelaps, Cosmolaelaps, Hypoaspis and five species viz A. casali, C. qassimensis, C. simplex, H. dactylifera and H. zaheri were reported (Table 1).
