12. Chryasus carinulosus (Casey), new combination

(Figs. available at https://collections.nmnh.si.edu)

Psiona carinulosa Casey (1922: 274 and 320, key and description).

Diagnosis. This elongate brown species forms a morphologically uniform complex together with C. montyi, C. persimilis and C. taironius . Chryasus montyi is darker than C. carinulosus, the others are reddish.

Material examined. Brazil, ParĂ¡, received from Desbrochers des Loges, 1 male, holotype (USNM) .

Notes. Chryasus carinulosus is known only by the holotype. I dissected and documented in detail three morphologically similar species from Central America and one from Colombia, to support future examinations of South American material. Presently available, morphologically similar specimens from the Amazon basin and Trinidad Tobago, all singletons, are insufficient to resolve the taxonomy of this species.
