Scydmaenus minangkabauensis Blattný, 1926: 3 . Based on type material from Sumatra.
Scydmaenus (Scydmaenus) hoabinhensis Lhoste, 1937: 401 . Based on type material from Vietnam; specimens from Canton mentioned. Incorrect original spelling haobinhensis, corrected by Lhoste 1938: 114.
Scydmaenus (Scydmaenus) hoabinhensis Lhoste, 1938: 114 . As new; synonymic homonym. Synonymized by Franz, 1984: 104.
Distribution. China (Guangdong) (Lhoste, 1938: 114); India (Kerala) (Franz, 1989: 40); Indonesia (Java: Lhoste, 1938: 114; Sumatra: Blattný, 1926: 3; Lhoste 1938: 114); Nepal (Franz, 1974: 15; Franz, 1981: 296); Pakistan (Franz, 1982: 128); Sri Lanka (Lhoste, 1938: 114; Franz, 1982: 128); Malaysia (Sabah) (Franz, 1992: 860); Thailand (Chûjô, 1964: 177); Taiwan (Lhoste, 1938: 114), Vietnam (Lhoste 1937: 401; Lhoste, 1938: 114).
Remarks. Aedeagus of S. minangkabauensis was illustrated in Franz (1989: 39, fig. 7), but not explained whether based on a type specimen or not, or from what locality (but Franz (1984: 104) examined syntypes and studied aedeagus of a specimen designated as lectotype). Scydmaenus hoabinhensis was redescribed by Franz (1982: 128) including illustration of aedeagus, but no type material was mentioned, and again, it remains unknown whether this illustration was based on a type or non-type specimen, and from what locality. Scydmaenus hoabinhensis was listed as a possible (with question mark) junior synonym of Scydmaenus vestitoides in Franz (1985: 110); the latter hypothesis was not supported by any evidence and was apparently based on a specimen from Taiwan identified by Csiki as S. vestitoides, but as S. hoabinhensis by Franz (1985: 110); later Franz (1989: 40) rejected this synonymy, but again without studying the type material of S. vestitoides . Species omitted from checklist of O’Keefe & Li (1998).
