Hydatothrips (Neohydatothrips) samayunkur Kudô, 1995: 169

First described from Japan this species is wide spread around the world in Asia, Africa, Central and South America and Australia (Mound & Tree 2009). It is commonly known as marigold thrips due to its strong association with leaves and flowers of marigold ( Tagetes sp.) for breeding and feeding (Nakahara 1999; Lima & Mound 2016a). N. samayunkur is very similar to N. hemileucus (Hood) in general appearance and body features, but can be distinguished by the dark brown pronotal blotch as compared to the yellow blotch in hemileucus (Lima & Mound 2016a) .

SAUDI ARABIA, Al Baha, Al Makhwa, Shada Al Ala Natural Reserve, 91 females, from Tagetes minuta, 8.iv.2019, (19°50.575’N 41°18.691’E Alt. 1666 m), BT; Shada Al Ala Natural Reserve, 2 females from Solanum macranthum, 1 female from T. minuta, 8.iv.2019, (19°50.411’N 41°18.686’E Alt, 1611 m), BT; Al Baha, Raghadan park, 11 females and 2 larvae from T. minuta, 22.ix.2020, (20°01.079’N 41°27.084’E Alt. 2168 m), BT, (Rasool, I.) (KSMA).
