Acrogonia amazonensis sp. nov.
(Figs. 1–9)
Total length. Male holotype 8.5 mm; female unknown.
Holotype description. Head and thorax. Head (Figs. 1–2) strongly produced anteriorly; median length of crown approximately 9/10 interocular width and 5/10 transocular width. Crown (Fig. 1), in dorsal view, with triangular form; with carina and elevation at transition to face; coronal suture distinct; ocelli located behind imaginary line between anterior eye angles, each approximately equidistant between median line of crown and adjacent anterior eye angle; with median fovea, without sculpturing or setae. Antennal ledges, in dorsal view, slightly protuberant; in lateral view, carinate dorsally. Frons convex; muscle impressions distinct; epistomal suture obscure medially; clypeus not produced, its contour continuing profile of frons. Thorax (Figs. 1–2) with width of pronotum less than transocular width of head; lateral pronotal margins parallel; posterior margin emarginate; dorsopleural carinae complete; pronotal disc with rugae, without pubescence; mesonotum with scutellum not transversely striate. Forewings (Figs. 1–2) with coriaceous texture; membrane restricted to apical cells, apical portions of anteapical cells and extending anteriorly along costal margin. Hind legs with femoral setal formula 2:0:0; length of first tarsomere greater than combined length of two more distal tarsomeres.
Color. Ground color of anterior dorsum (Fig. 1) mostly dark green; crown with irregular yellow maculae bordering anterior margin from apex to antennal ledges and also extending along inner eye margins; pronotum with small irregular yellow marks anteriorly; mesonotum with yellow apex. Forewings (Figs. 1–2) dark green, except for membranous portions and irregular pale marks. Face and lateral and ventral portions of thorax yellow to greenish-yellow; frons brown on superior portion; lateral lobe of pronotum dark brown on superior portion. Legs brownish-yellow.
Male genitalia. Pygofer (Fig. 3), in lateral view, strongly produced posteriorly; with distinct lobe on basiventral portion; dorsoapical portion folded inward; setae distributed mostly on median and distal third of disc. Subgenital plates (Fig. 4), in ventral view, subtriangular; basal third expanded laterally and then tapering abruptly toward apex; apical portion small, digitiform, appearing articulated at its base with remainder of plate; in lateral view, plates short, not extending posteriorly beyond basal half of pygofer; plate surface with scattered setae. Connective (Fig. 5), in dorsal view, T-shaped; stalk narrow, with median keel [a previously unknown feature in the genus], apex expanded. Style (Fig. 5), in dorsal view, extending posteriorly slightly farther than apex of connective; preapical lobe distinct, bearing few setae; apical portion directed outward; apex acute (Fig. 6). Aedeagus (Figs. 7– 8) symmetrical; shaft, in lateral view (Fig. 7), short and slightly curved dorsally, without processes; in ventral view (Fig. 8), with pair of lateral sclerotized lines, slightly narrowed apically; aedeagal base with pair of elongate slender processes, their length twice length of shaft and apices acute. Anal tube (Fig. 9) without processes.
Female unknown.
