Physalis minima Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 183. 1753.
"Habitat in Indiae aridis sordidis." RCN: 1454.
Lectotype (designated here by Edmonds): Herb. Clifford: 62, Physalis 6 (BM) .
Current name: Physalis angulata L. ( Solanaceae).
Note: Heine (in Aubréville & Leroy, Fl. Nouvelle-Calédonie 7: 132. 1975) wrongly indicated Hermann material (BM) as lectotype but, in the absence of a reference in the protologue to Linnaeus’ Flora Zeylanica, this cannot be original material for this name. Heine took up P. minima in the sense of P. lagascae Roem. & Schult, and was followed by a number of later authors. However, others have treated it as a synonym of P. angulata L. (see Nicolson & al. in Regnum Veg 119: 248. 1988), and this is confirmed by Edmonds’ formal typification.
