Primula veris Linnaeus var. acaulis Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 143. 1753.

RCN: 1150.

Type not designated.

Original material: Herb. Burser XIII: 139 (UPS) .

Current name: Primula vulgaris Huds. ( Primulaceae).

Note: Greuter (in Candollea 44: 566. 1989) argues that Linnaeus made a new combination based on this (i.e. P. acaulis (L.) L.) in Fl. Anglica: 12. 1754. This would have priority over P. vulgaris Hudson, long used for the primrose. However, Brummitt & Meikle (in Watsonia 19: 181-184. 1993) have argued that Greuter’s interpretation is erroneous, based on the variable typography that the theses display.
