"Habitat in India." RCN: 2486.
Lectotype (Verhoek in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 78. 1993): Herb. Hermann 3: 34, No. 125 (BM-000594676) .
Generitype of Polianthes Linnaeus.
Current name: Polianthes tuberosa L. ( Agavaceae).
Note: Enayet Hossain & El-Gadi (in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 121: 18. 1986) indicated 437.1 (LINN) as type but this lacks a Species Plantarum number (i.e. “1”) and is a post-1753 addition to the collection and not original material. Several authors have discussed the early literature surrounding this name including Trueblood (in Econ. Bot. 27: 165. 1973), and Ullrich (in Herbertia 49: 50-57. 1994), who lists many early illustrations, including a Clusius plate cited by Linnaeus, which is also reproduced by Ramón-Laca (in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 57: 100. 1999).
