Hutchinson & Phillips (in Ann. S. African Mus. 9: 278. 1917) said that the genus is "founded by Linnaeus...on a figure published by Plukenet" which is "an excellent representation of P. camphorata L. the type of the genus". However, the statement is not accepted here as effecting typification of the name.
