Pharus latifolius Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1269. 1759.

["Habitat in Jamaica."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1498 (1763). RCN: 7194.

Lectotype (Hitchcock in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 12: 125. 1908): Browne, Herb. Linn. No. 1120.1 (LINN) .

Current name: Pharus latifolius L. ( Poaceae).

Note: Pharus latifolius was published in May–June 1759 and therefore pre-dates P. resupinatus L. (Dec 1759) . The latter appears to have been coined in error, for although Linnaeus included it in the reprint of Fl. Jamaicensis (in Amoen. Acad. 5: 382. 1759), he subsequently omitted it from Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1408 (1763), referring only to P. latifolius . However, as P. resupinatus was not based on exactly the same elements as P latifolius, it is a heterotypic synonym of the earlier name, rather than illegitimate and homotypic with it.
