Leucilla floridiana sensu Jenkin 1908

Jenkin (1908: 453) reported the Central West Atlantic species Leucetta floridana (Haeckel, 1872) (originally as Leucaltis) from Wasini Island. He misspelled the species name (as floridiana) and transferred the species to the genus Leucilla because of the presence of ectosomal giant tetractines. Valderrama et al. (2009) redescribed and discussed L. floridana, restricting the occurrence of that species to the West Atlantic. They pointed out that Jenkin’s description is too limited to be able to classifiy his material and redescription is necessary.
