Genus Aulonastus Kethley, 1970

Type species: Aulonastus pipili Kethley, 1970, by original designation.
Representatives of the genus Aulonastus are found inside feather quills of secondaries, coverts and only occasionally inside contour feathers. They are associated with passerines of the families Cardinalidae, Emberizidae, Fringillidae, Icteridae, Laniidae, Motacillidae, Prunellidae, Rhinocriptidae, Turdidae, and Troglodytidae .
The Nearctic fauna comprises five of the 14 species described in this genus: A. emberizicus Skoracki et al., 2010, A. euphagus Skoracki et al., 2010, A. pipili Kethley, 1970, A. pirangus Skoracki et al., 2010, and A. sturnellus Skoracki et al., 2010 .
