Taxonomic history. Morley (1915) transferred Ichneumon cognatorius to Hadrojoppa Cameron, 1902a; then, Uchida (1930a) synonymised Hadrojoppa with Protichneumon Thomson, 1893; finally, Uchida (1935) transferred cognatoria to Amblyjoppa Cameron, 1902b .
Current taxonomy. Amblyjoppa cognatoria (Smith, 1874) ( Ichneumonidae: Ichneumoninae: Heresiarchini).
Type number. Type 3b.36. Specimen # NHMUK010634915
Type status. Lectotype, designated by Townes et al. (1965).

Type locality. Hyôgo Prefecture, Honshû, Japan.

Condition. Good, but right antenna missing after 31st flagellomere, left antenna and right hind tarsus lost.
Remarks. The only specimen from the type series in NHMUK is a female labelled ‘var 2 ♂ ’.
