Smaragdina sikkimia species-group

Diagnosis. Dorsum yellowish brown to brown; eyes large, frons narrow, noticeably narrower than the transverse diameter of the eye in males and approximately equal in females; aedeagus with finger-shaped apical process. Species included. Smaragdina bienkowskii sp. nov., S. constrictifrons Medvedev, 2010; S. sikkimia (Jacoby, 1903) and S. vietnamica Medvedev, 2014 .

Key to identification of the S. sikkimia species-group

1 Antennae entirely brown. Antennomere IV not narrower than antennomere V. Frons about 0.7 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye in male, equal to that in female. Apex of aedeagus slightly bent ventrally in lateral view (Fig. 19). Pygidium of female with shallow emargination at apical margin. Spermatheca as in Fig. 24. Body length 4.8–6.1 mm. – Antennae brown with antennomeres IV–XI darkened to black.Antennomere IV slightly narrower than antennomere V. Pygidium of female with slightly truncated apical margin without emargination............................................ 2

2 Apical process of aedeagus toothed on each side and not emarginated on apex (Fig. 17). In lateral view apex not bent ventrally. Frons narrower 0.55–0.70 as wide as transverse diameter of eye in male and approximately as wide as in female. Underside and legs brown. Body length 5–6 mm. Thailand ............................. – Apical process of aedeagus not toothed on each side and more or less emarginate on apex. In lateral view apex strongly bent ventrally............................................................................................ 3

3 Ventral side of body and legs brown. Frons of male somewhat wider, 0.77 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Aedeagus not depressed below gonopore and not appearing sinuous in lateral view (Fig. 16). Spermatheca with long frizzy ductus ending by rather large spindle (Fig. 22). Body length 6.3–6.5 mm. Vietnam ................... Smaragdina bienkowskii sp. nov.

– Ventral side of body and tarsi black or darkened. Frons of male somewhat narrower, 0.60-0.65 as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Aedeagus depressed below gonopore, therefore, in lateral view it appears thin and sinuous in its preapical part (Fig. 18). Spermatheca as in Fig. 23. Body length 4.3–6.0 mm.
