Type Locality: Ethiopia, Bale Mtns, Harenna Forest, Katcha Camp, 2400 m .
Vernacular Names: Bale Shrew.
Distribution: Bale Mtns and Mt. Albasso, Ethiopia (Yalden and Largen, 1992).
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
Discussion: Lavrenchenko et al. (1997) described the karyotype (2n = 36, FN = 48) which is very different from that of the similar " bottegi " (now obscurior) (2n = 40, FN = 60) from Côte d’Ivoire.
