Edessa (Edessa) indiscreta sp. n.

(Figs. 27, 62 E–F, 73)

Etymology. The name refers to the similarity with E. (E.) lavata Breddin, 1903 (L. indiscretus, closely connected).

Material examined. Holotype female. SURINAME: P. H. V. Doesburg Jr. (RMNH).

Measurements (n= 1). Total length: 20.4; head length: 1.8; head width: 3.6; pronotum length: 3.7; pronotum width: 12.5; scutellum length: 9.5; scutellum width: 7.0; abdominal width: 12.0; length antennomeres: I: 1.0; II: 2.0; III: 1.5; IV: 4.5.

Diagnosis. Large (20.4 mm). Dorsal body surface green (Fig. 62 E). Ventral surface yellow to orange with transversal black bands on thorax and abdomen (Fig. 62 F). Antennae reddish brown (Fig. 62 E–F). Pronotum with brown punctures, anterolateral margin with black punctures (Fig. 62 E). Humeral angles short (1.3 times wider than long); apex with black spot restricted to the angles in dorsal view and restricted to the margin of the angles in ventral view; bent backward (Fig. 62 E–F). Scutellum with brown punctures; posterior part excavated medially; apex not reaching the end of coria (Fig. 62 E). Coria with all veins concolorous with the surrounding surface (Fig. 62 E). Connexival segments with concavities almost entirely covered by small subrectangular black spots separated by a large yellow median spot (Fig. 62 E), spots extending ventrally, triangular (Fig. 62 F). Posterolateral angles of connexivum with apices black (Fig. 62 E). Ventral surface, thorax with black bands; dark band of the propleura covering 2/3 of the width of the sclerite (Fig. 62 F). Evaporatorium concolorous with the surrounding surface (Fig. 62 F). Metasternal process (Fig. 27 B) with arms of anterior bifurcation straight and laterally expanded at apex; anterior bifurcation slightly excavated receiving half of fourth rostral segment. Legs with tibiae and tarsi slightly reddish, remaining yellow to orange (Fig. 62 F). Abdomen with spine of segment III rounded (Figs. 27 B; 62 F). Intersegmental areas covered by narrow solid black bands with well-defined margins, reaching the lateral spots (Fig. 62 F). Pseudosutures concolorous with the surrounding surface (Fig. 62 F, dark lines are a deterioration of the exoskeleton). Median longitudinal brown band incomplete, restricted to the segment VII (Fig. 62 F). Trichobothria both parallel to the spiracle. Posterolateral angles of segment VII not reaching the level of apices of laterotergites IX (Fig. 27 A). Male genitalia. Unknown. Female genitalia, valvifers VIII with dark punctures; sutural margins contiguous, brown and not divergent; posterior margin brown and arched. Laterotergites VIII with dark band on outer lateral margins. Laterotergites IX with brown spot in the base and apices acuminate passing the mediotergite VIII (Fig. 27 A).

Comments. See comments on E. (E.) brevihumeralis sp. n. and E. (E.) imitans sp. n. . Edessa (E.) indiscreta sp. n. differs from E. (E.) brevihumeralis sp. n., E. (E.) imitans sp. n., E. (E.) tenuivittata sp. n., and E. (E.) lavata (see Mendonça et al., 2023, Fig. 11 A–F) by the characteristics of the genitalia.
